Talk:Displacement map

"A displacement map is a mesh of polygons that makes up part of the environment in a 3D game engine." doesn't seem right to me. A displacement map isn't the result, but the two-dimensional image used in the process. A more accurate sentence would be "A Displacement Map is a two-dimensional image use in the process of Displacement Mapping that is applied to a surfaces normal plane to extrude and deform it, used mainly in Terrain visualisation." Also, "The term came into use in reference to its application in the source engine" is completely false, as the terms been in common use for nearly ten years. --Mincetro 01:22, 26 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
