Use? edit

Except for lizards, the article completely lacks answers to the question "why does an animal have a dewlap?" CapnZapp (talk) 14:48, 5 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

The problem is that we simply don't know what is their function. If you have sourced information on the function/s, please add these.__DrChrissy (talk) 14:27, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
It would be nice if there was a reference to the fact that we don't know what their function is. Or better, a section on theoretical functions. I suppose this will differ by species (or genus, or whatever) — Harry (talk) 18:16, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Page Structure edit

I made sections for different animals. I left them as "Mammals" and "Reptiles and Birds" as separating Birds to its own section seemed superfluous for one sentence. I assigned the pictures to respective categories. I think either the Zebu or the Mastiff could be used for the intro section; the Zebu presents a better example of a dewlap, but the Mastiff is probably more associated with the idea of a dewlap (based on personal experience). I chose to put the Zebu pic in the Mammals section as it is explicitly discussed there. — Harry (talk) 18:37, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Your edits seem fine. I have put lowercase for "birds" according to usual headings style, and I thought anole needed a little clarification as it is not entirely clear what the animal is from the image.__DrChrissy (talk) 10:05, 28 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Gular fold = Dewlap? edit

The article Gular fold describes an anatomical feature of animals, especially lizards which appears to be the same as the Dewlap. Are they the same? If so the articles should so state. Desoto10 (talk) 01:29, 5 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Resources edit

Hello, I had been reading through this page and had some journal articles I found that might be useful information to cite and add to the page. They mainly focus on reptile dewlaps but give some great background info. I gave the links below and just a quick sentence describing what they discuss. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0166432805800828 Talks about the structure of the Dewlap, also the bio-mechanics of it's movement. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1096495906002612 Looks at the coloration of the reptile dewlap forming from carotenoid and pterin pigments. http://www.jstor.org/stable/1563454?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents Discusses the function of color in the reptile dewlap.

Would these be some useful sources to add? Lexiehiggins (talk) 22:18, 10 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
