Talk:Decentralized wastewater system

Discussion on further improvements needed edit

I think we should still add an examples section and also a section on operation and maintenance. There should also be more references that could be added, like publications from BORDA? I had a quick look in the SuSanA library and picked some out: http://www.susana.org/en/resources/library . With the help of these publications, I started up a section on history and on examples but this still needs further work. Documents in the SuSanA library, or from elsewhere, could help. Hi, User:RHrani, you are making a lot of changes but some of them I don't agree with. Like: I would prefer to have a section on history, examples and external links. I don't agree with your deletion of those. Can you please reply to me here on the talk page? EMsmile (talk) 20:29, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi User:EMsmile,RHrani 21:23, 28 March 2017 (UTC) The additional sources are useful and I have read them carefully and incorporated them in the text with additional explanation. I have added 2 more references and one image. The history section - I can not contribute on it because I do not have enough information and I do not think it is so relevant. The mentioned publication and date (1998) is definitely not the beginning, even if you look at reference 4, it is from 1997. Regarding the examples - the references contain numerous examples and there is no need to present a resume, I think the interested reader can find and read them in detail from the original source.Almost all references are open sources. The external links and the see also section - looks like they overlap, that is the reason I removed the external links. The O and M issue is very relevant but not only to decentralized ww systems but to any ww system and any other system, and this is all I can say on this point. Each system is specific and has its own O and M instructions and requirements. And finally, sustainable sanitation is not just for developing countries, but for any country. I removed the sections because this is still a draft and I wanted to see how the page looks like without them. I suppose it is not a problem to add them and somebody else can put whatever they consider relevant.Reply

Hi user:EMsmile, I made additional and for now last changes. I hope they may be regarded as improvements to the article. Made some additions, related to storm water issues, added a new section on regulations and management, with remark regarding operation and management, moved the example subsection as a normal one and added one additional example from a case study we did in 2005. Also, added one additional external link, and 2 more links to the see also section. RHrani 18:08, 30 March 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by RHrani (talkcontribs) Reply

Hi RHrani, looks great. I have also done some further edits mainly trying to make it easier to understand for lay persons. Can you come up with some references for the new section on regulations? Also the example from Botswana is perhaps a bit too detailed? It is also a pity that the Botswana reference is not available for reading online? If you have the pdf file, send it to me and we can put it in the SuSanA library so that it gets a URL. - Please also check the article on onsite sewage facility as I see a bit of overlap with this one which we can probably iron out in this article and in the other one. Hi EMsmile, added the requested citations, and made some editing of the same section, and the case study example. Will make the corrections regarding the article in the near future. RHrani (talk) 21:00, 31 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Moved live edit

It looks reasonable so I have moved the article live. Happy editing. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 12:37, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Relationship with onsite sewage facility article? edit

I think we need a sentence or two to explain what the difference between this article and this one is: onsite sewage facility. Is it mainly to do with scale, i.e. the number of households that are being covered? User:RHrani, what would you say? EMsmile (talk) 12:09, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Adding to Examples and Background sections edit

I plan on adding the Peruvian NGO EcoSwell to the "Examples" section for their DEWATS projects. I also plan to add more scholarly citations/discourse to the "Background" section, specifically on rural vs urban dynamics.AB.cal (talk) 18:54, 17 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
