Does CHDK violate the warranty of the cam? --Tubesship (talk) 08:27, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't think there's an official answer to that (and there probably won't be) but you could argue that, since you're not actually flashing the firmware but simply loading stuff into the memory each time, it's just a software addon and therefore shouldn't invalidate the warranty. At any rate, since it all lives on the SD card, if you take that out there's no "evidence" anyway! 86.132.137.224 (talk) 05:25, 18 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
The CHDK Project says no on their faq. Nbauman (talk) 04:53, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Freeware from the CHDK project allows users to non-destructively modify the firmware and write custom programs with new features."

CHDK is Free Software, Sourceforge says it's licensed under the GNU GPL: http://sourceforge.net/projects/chdk/ Also, http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Downloads says "CHDK is an open-source project". 220.237.139.183 (talk) 06:20, 5 June 2008 (UTC)AnonymousReply

Digic IV "New changes includes a complete new User Interface". The user interface is normally entirely implemented in software. User interface improvements/changes in the Canon 50D are thus unrelated to the Digic IV hardware. 212.61.82.151 (talk) 08:14, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

DiG!C vs DIGIC edit

The following is a closed discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Canon Inc. may render the name on their printed curcuits as it may suit them, but their own web pages and marketing materials never use the spelling DiG!C. I suppose the article would better go as DIGIC but the alternate spelling should be mentioned as well. --82.179.218.11 (talk) 14:00, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Support. Stuff like WP:TM supports the move, as do past cases like Nvidia (which used to be NVidia and NVIDIA, or Dish Network use to be DiSH Network). TJ Spyke 16:02, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. Unsure of the capitalisation, but the non-standard use of punctuation is certainly against naming conventions. So this move is an improvement even if not perhaps the last word. Andrewa (talk) 16:57, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. Actually, Canon is not consistent in its usage. They do, in fact, use the odd spelling in marketing materials but not in all cases. For instance, in the collection of "feature icons" on this page you can see one with DiG!c 4. In the text portion of the page, however, it is spelled the more expected way, "DIGIC 4". On other pages, however, they do use the odd spelling in the text portion of the page. Here is the US PTO page for the mark. Henryhartley (talk) 21:56, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. The rendering "DIGIC" is the most common and therefore makes the most sense as the article title. -Big Smooth 16:34, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notable/encyclopedic content? edit

Is (or rather, can) the content in the article be considered notable or useful? Isn't rather DIGIC/II/III/4/5/6/7 etc essentially a marketing term which easily sums the advantages of Camera X which is better, faster etc. than the predecessor Camera Y (ie. DIGIC 4 vs. DIII) 88.148.207.172 (talk) 11:24, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The UBASIC referred to in the CHDK section is not the actual version of basic used in the software. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.26.195.154 (talk) 11:03, 27 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Magic Lantern edit

Should there be some mention in the section on Magic Lantern of its continued (open?) development via the ML forum ? There's a huge process of public testing and people suggesting new features going on which I think is pretty notable. I just wasn't sure if that amounted to advertising, or how to word it. Any suggestions? nagualdesign (talk) 02:22, 4 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Digic 5 is no more the latest one edit

It is stated in the article that Digic 5 is the most recent version. This ís not the case, now there are cameras out on the market like the Powershot SX270 and the PS SX280 incorporating the Digic 6. --217.82.171.161 (talk) 13:25, 9 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Correction required for the meaning of DIGIC edit

Canon USA released an informative story on DIGIC and clearly state that it stands for Digital Imaging Integrated Circuit.

I have not been able to locate anything that states it means anything else and will be changing the meaning to reflect the correct one.

Unfortunately as I am editing on my mobile phone I am not able to link the story but searching digic with bing does show it as the link after wikipedia on 31st October 2014 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.196.14.112 (talk) 01:52, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

DIGIC X+ edit

I understand that Canon R6 mk ii has an improved version of DIGIC. This is what reduced heating and increased speed compared to mk i. This is mentioned in some articles floating in the net. Focusing is heavily improved. I wonder what else is new with Digic x+? We will see what the next R6 firmware update brings. Nicceg (talk) 13:03, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
