Need something about grocery stores edit
I don't know how widespread the phenomenon is, but here in Dallas we have "cost-plus" grocery stores. They have "wholesale prices" marked on the groceries, and a chart showing how much they'll mark up. The markup is huge on small purchases, and smaller on huge purchases. The end result is that the consumer has no idea what the actual price is until they get to the register. These stores are exclusively located in low-income urban areas with a large proportion of residents who either have no other choice (the nearest full-service grocery is typically several miles away), or don't use their own funds for the purchases (relying instead on food stamps and WIC).
