"Chichimeca nation" edit

The "Chichimeca nation" did not exist in the form the article suggests. The Aztecs used the word Chichimeca to refer to the nomadic tribes to the north that they deemed to be uncivilized; they also used the word to refer to their own ancestors. The Spanish dealt with these tribes by using large groups of "civilized" (and conquered) natives to found northern colonies to serve as examples to the nomads on an alternate lifestyle--the colonies also served as safe havens for the silver miners traveling the Royal Road. The Chichimec War lasted as long as it did because there was no nation to conquer.Diablote (talk) 11:51, 20 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
