I renamed this article to remove the plural. Astudent 14:21, 2004 Oct 15 (UTC)

Why does the article state in the introduction that it isn't a closed system because it can exchange energy with its surroundings, when the article for closed system states a closed system can exchange energy with its surroundings? I will remove the offending sentence. 203.211.99.87 00:03, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Closed ecological system edit

"Although the Earth itself fits this definition, the term is most often used to describe much smaller manmade ecosystems." [24 May 2009] This is false. The Earth is not a closed ecological system. The ecology of the Earth relies on the sun, the moon (tides), stars (animal navigation) and more. - Trevor Blake

Today, at least, the definition of "Closed ecological system" in the lede refers to "matter" being exchanged, not energy; but I am going to fact-tag the above sentence anyway; it needs a reference. Comet Tuttle (talk) 18:18, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

In popular culture edit

In movies as Sunshine (2007 film), life support systems are shown.

PS: I don't now if its a closed ecological or controlled ecological life support system (please include in appropriate article if someone knows this)

Phototrophs and closed systems. edit

While both chemotrophic and phototrophic organisms are plausible, almost all closed ecological systems to date are based on a phototroph such as green algae.

There are some close systems, like Movile Cave, where the ecosystem uses chemosynthesis as a source of energy. bogdan (talk) 00:39, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
