The article states that "the name is usually pronounced ‘Marchbanks’". Is it not closer to "Marshbanks"? This is suggested by the following limerick (from here – not a reliable source):
- The vicar - his surname was Beauchamp -
- Of marriage endeavoured to teauchamp,
- While the bridesmaid, Miss Marjoribanks,
- Played one or two harjoripranks;
- But the shoe that she threw failed to reauchamp.
