The article states that "the name is usually pronounced ‘Marchbanks’". Is it not closer to "Marshbanks"? This is suggested by the following limerick (from here – not a reliable source):

The vicar - his surname was Beauchamp -
Of marriage endeavoured to teauchamp,
While the bridesmaid, Miss Marjoribanks,
Played one or two harjoripranks;
But the shoe that she threw failed to reauchamp.
