Electron state? edit

This first line mentions "electron state", but I cannot find any information on wikipedia about this. Maybe there are two terms for the same thing and this article is using one and the rest of wikipedia is using another?     — SkyLined (talk) 11:46, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Color or colour? edit

The found the following in my effort to research the correct WP:ENGVAR for this article:

  • On 2004-11-13, User:Coozy created the article using "color" exclusively.
  • On 2005-07-05 (edit summary: merging-in from chromic phenomenon) User:Radiojon introduced 14 instances of "colour", including 8 instances of "colour change caused by"; also added: 1 instance each of "color" and "colorant".
  • On 2006-12-27 (edit summary: redirect fixes) User:NaBUru38 changed unwikilinked "colors" to wikilinked "colours", leaving one instance each of "color" and "colorants" remaining. The edit summary, though accurate in the other changes made, was somewhat inaccurate in this case as it was not "fixing" a redirect but adding a wikilink.
  • On 2008-01-18 (edit summary: restored American spelling) User:Swedish fusilier changed that instance of colours to colors, also changing the other 15 instances of "colour" to "color". The edit summary, though accurate in this particular change, was inaccurate in the other changes as they had never been spelled "color" previously. This is the first non-stub revision that only uses one variety of spelling.
  • On 2010-08-25 (edit summary: Additonal data and reference) User:Bamfield added a reference with "colour" it its title
  • On 2018-09-12 (edit summary: →‎Color changing phenomena) User:Bamfield introduced the word "colour" in the phrase "colour change caused by" in a bulleted list; however, 6 other bullets added in the same edit used "color change caused by" as did every pre-existing list item.
  • On 2018-09-17 (edit summary: →‎Light manipulation) User:Bamfield added two instances of "colour", one in a red link.
  • On 2021-08-12 (edit summary: →‎top: Add section link) User:YBG changed one instance of "colour" to "color" to correctly link to a section on the page.

As near as I can tell, these are the only cases where the spelling "colour" was added or removed from the article. I note also that all 10 non-redirect versions of chromic phenomenon use both spellings.

The first four versions of chromism only used "color", but these were all stubs. The next revision that used only one spelling of color/colour was the 2008-01-18 version, which consistently used "color". As this article has no strong MOS:TIES to a particular variety of English, it seems reasonable to say that US English should be MOS:RETAINed in this article, unless there is a consensus to the contrary.

I will make the appropriate edits to restore spelling consistency to this article.

Full disclosure: I am a native speaker of EN-US, but frequently edit articles that use other varieties, particularly the many EN-AU articles supported by WP:ELEM. YBG (talk) 20:11, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal edit

I propose merging Chromotropism into Chromism. It appears that Chromotropism is just a smaller version of chromism, but I'm not an expert in chemistry, so there might be a distinction I don't understandHerravondure (talk) 15:41, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
