POV

The "Extracurricular Activities" section seems to violate WP:NPOV, WP:V, and perhaps even WP:NOR because it contains uncited information, including details about awards the school has obtained. It also uses words like "superior" and sentences like "SGA (Student Government Association) is very active in the school as well as on a district and state level." Punta Gorda High School

I've never heard it be called "Punta Gorda High School", nor could I find any references supporting it. I say the information should be removed, it seems to be false. GO-PCHS-NJROTC (talk) 20:52, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Copy and paste

It appears the following information is a direct copy and paste from its source with a few minor changes:

"Punta Gorda Grammar and High School opened its doors in 1907 with an enrollment of 150 students. Construction of a new school on Taylor Street began in 1911 due to overcrowding issues. However, by 1926 after the construction of the first bridge to cross Charlotte Harbor, bussing increased Punta Gorda's enrollment to 1,000 which in turn lead to the construction of Charlotte High School." I am so sick of people trying to make this article an advestisement. I wish people would stop running their anti and pro Charlotte High School campaigns on Wikipedia. This is not the place for knocking or promoting the school. GO-PCHS-NJROTC (talk) 23:04, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

"Charlotte County's First and Finest" isn't their motto anymore.

That was their motto at one time, but I'm pretty sure that their motto is "Tradition never graduates" now (not to break NPOV, but I know this because I always make fun of it and say that tradition fails). GO-PCHS-NJROTC ^(Messages) 05:39, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Um well your kind of advertising PCHS by signing off GO PCHS after every post arent you. And also, how do you know what our mottos are if you dont even go to our school? First and Finest is indeed still a popular saying around Charlotte High School and should be kept in the article. Just because I don't go to that school doesn't mean that I haven't seen people who wear those shirts that say "Charlotte High School; Tradition never graduates" on them; I live in Deep Creek after all where probably about 75% of the teenage population are tarpons. Also, Wikipedia is a free content encyclopedia that attempts to AVOID bias, and because is a (locally) known controversy, I believe it is fair that we include it. We're not just picking on CHS here; go take a look at the notable staff members section at Port Charlotte High School. Soon, that won't be the only controversy mentioned there (PCHS) because I will soon add information about the GSA controversy as soon as I can find good references. GO PCHS NJROTC is my username, and I picked that because my original idea, PCHS NJROTC, seemed (to me, at the time) to give the impression that the username represented the entire unit. Consensus does not seem to have a problem with the username or else I'd change it (possibly by dropping "go"). As far as the motto goes, I'm guessing maybe the school has more than one motto? Also, your comment "how do you know what our school mottos are if you dont even go to our school" implies that the school is not notable and would probably give some of the deletionists bad ideas if this were up at AfD. The school seems to meet the notability standards as much as the other surrounding schools, but you have to watch what you go saying' 'round here 'cause there's people out to get you here, some being anti school article, some being school rivals, some being just plain vandals, and some who just have really high standards and like to delete everything that isn't perfect. Also, "bashing the school for trying to keep a historic building" doesn't sound right at all considering that they're only saving the front of the building, they've completely redesigned the layout of the campus, and excuse the personal opinion, but I'd have to say that what I saw at the Veterans' Day Parade looked every bit as modern as Felix Varela High School in Miami, Florida, which I believe was built in the 2000s. In taking a closer look at the article (as I had neglected to remove the template), I have removed the section (per WP:BLPDEL as this applies to all articles, not simply biographical ones) with the one individual in it. This to me appears to be a WP:BLP issue; the individual is not notable, and this is a single event that reflects negatively on the individual. PGWG (talk) 18:58, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

AP exam claim

Someone wrote "Charlotte High had a higher passing rate for Advance Placement exams than any other Charlotte County high school," but they didn't leave any references, and I didn't see anything about it on the school's website, and I didn't see anything about it on the school districts website. If correct, this would be worth noting in the tiny academics section, but I must question the factual accuracy since I didn't see any obvious signs of this being true, and the IP that put this on here appears to be based in Deep Creek, Florida, which is part of Charlotte High's district. I did, however, find an older article in Google that said that Lemon Bay High had the highest AP exam passing rate (that could have changed by now, or it could still be that way), but nothing about such statistics for Charlotte High. I've taken it off for the time being, but will reinsert the information if I or anyone else can find anything indicate the truthfullness of the statement.
