Redundant note about the main article edit

Why is it necessary to state "(See Charles Sanders Peirce for the main discussion of Peirce.)" in the lead? The hat note already tells the reader to go there and there is already a link to that page in the lead sentence. It's overkill. Jojalozzo 02:35, 19 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

It's overkill only for people already well enough acquainted with Peirce. These articles' audience is much wider than that. Many may simply miss the link in the lead sentence, not to mention the link's implication, especially given how atypical this article and its title are in terms of their relation to the main article on the same person. A bit of explicit direction in an unusual situation is reasonable help to the general audience. The hat note won't remain there forever. The Tetrast (talk) 04:55, 19 April 2012 (UTC). Edited. Oops, I misunderstood the phrase "hat note." Now I see the hat note itself. Emily Litella moment. Okay, will remove sentence. from lead paragraph. The Tetrast (talk) 05:36, 19 April 2012 (UTC).Reply
