History edit

Should something be added about the murder of Joseph Smith? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.237.109.194 (talkcontribs) 21:25, 4 March 2007

This has since been added to the intro. -- Beland (talk) 08:04, 9 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Consistency edit

In the last paragraph The use of Carthage and referencing county is inconsistent with the town town / county names. ChristopherCorn 01:07, 24 August 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Christophercorn (talkcontribs)

@Christophercorn: I'm not sure what you mean? -- Beland (talk) 08:04, 9 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Missing census years edit

The article says the town was founded in 1837, but the table lacks census numbers from before 1870. What explains the gap? -- Beland (talk) 08:06, 9 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I confirmed there is 1860 census data for Carthage Township, Hancock County, Illinois, but none for the town of Carthage that decade, and before that neither are broken out from the county numbers. I think this may be because the town had a population of under 1,000? Its historic population might be recoverable by lookup up records for individual households and tallying them up from scratch, if anyone wants to put in a lot of work. (Maybe with time they'll be digitized in a more machine-readable format.) -- Beland (talk) 01:51, 22 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
