The article claims that Gerstley borate is just another name for calcium borate. I don’t know about what the term “Gerstley borate” refers to in other industries, but in the ceramic arts this claim is entirely false. Gerstley borate refers to the substance extracted from a certain (now-defunct) mine, it is not calcium borate, and in fact it does not even have a consistent chemical composition. You might be able to obtain calcium borate by reacting calcium metal with boric acid, but you definitely cannot obtain Gerstley borate this way.—Al12si (talk) 22:19, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- Correct. Some references do claim that Gerstley borate is merely colemanite (calcium borate) but others indicate that Gerstley borate contains a somewhat variable amount of sodium as well. 75.90.146.120 (talk) 18:22, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
