I expect you won't be shocked to find I've taken this up. As always feel free to query any of my points or correct me where necessary! [Noting here that while I was writing this Hog Farm began reviewing a GAN of mine, but this is in no way a review in response to that, although I am still grateful!]

Prelim edit

  • No dup links
  • Only image present is correctly licensed
  • References look good

Lede edit

  • "Island Number Ten" - they really ran out of name ideas here didn't they?
    • There's also an "Island Number Eight" further upriver. I assume that there must have been a #9, too
  • "Maurepas and the gunboat CSS Pontchartrain were sent up the White River" - the lede isn't too chunky, so I don't see why you can't elaborate on why she was sent there here
    • Added

Service history edit

  • I think you've probably enough information for there to be a separate section on construction/civilian use rather than just one big chunk of everything
    • Split into subsections
  • Paragraph two is huge!
    • Split
  • "The vessel had two sidewheels, but no masts." - is the lack of masts relevant? Did they usually have them or something?
    • Don't think it's too relevant, removed
  • Can "Bayou Sara" be linked to St. Francisville, Louisiana or is there no definite link despite the name?
    • I'm not quite comfortable doing that, as the source doesn't make a connection there
  • "although her sidewheel propulsion system was considered less useful than if she was a screw steamer." - why?
    • Source isn't clear on this
  • "armed with six cannon" - doubt you've missed this, but is there no specification as to what kind of guns these were?
  • " or if the previous figure was an error." - why suggest only the former figure and not the latter to be an error?
    • The source actually suggests that the 5 figure is a correction, likely because the 5 figure was reported later in its life as well
  • "The guns were 24-pounders and 32-pounders." - well that answers my previous question! This should be moved to where you first describe the cannons, rather than in their own disjointed sentence, and added to the infobox. Are you able to stipulate smoothbore/rifled?
    • Moving done, source does not specify if they were rifled. Added to infobox as well; I am unable to give relative count for the 24- and 32- pounders
  • "Brigadier General John M. Palmer's Union troops had established batteries across the Mississippi from Tiptonville, Tennessee" > "Brigadier General John M. Palmer's Union troops had established batteries across the Mississippi at Tiptonville, Tennessee"?
    • Actually, they were on the other side of the river from Tiptonville, which was below the island. The Confederates still held Tiptonville at this point. I've added the word "downriver" here to try to clarify the geography
  • "Hollins sent Maurepas, CSS Pontchartrain, CSS McRae, and CSS General Polk" - first mentions of the latter three ships, denote types as well please
    • Added
  • "and suffered damage" - any guess as to of what kind?
    • Added
  • "Eventually, Palmer's men fell back" - is this because the Confederate ships were successful or for another reason?
  • "A second Union ironclad completed the run early on the morning of April 7" - if you name the first ironclad you should do the same for the second if possible
    • Added
  • "and most of the Confederates withdrew from Island Number Ten during the night of April 7/8" - clarify that they withdraw because their position was now untenable, or I assume that's why!
    • Added
  • "with Ivy and CSS Jackson" - note Jackson's type
    • Added
  • "Maurepas responded with a shot from a 9-inch Dahlgren gun" - you didn't mention this in the original armament section?
    • Now mentioned. This is tricky, as a 9-inch Dahlgren gun would be unlikely to fit Gaines's statement of 24-pounders and 32-pounders
  • " and sent Maurepas and Pontchartrain to operate on the White River." - I've already mentioned this, but to what end were they sent there?
    • Has been added
  • "For years after the battle" - how many?
    • Source isn't specific

- That's all I have for now, will await your replies. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 18:29, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Hog Farm Happy with all your changes and passing as a good article. Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you! Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 12:41, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
