Bougainvillea thorns

A scratch or light puncture will normally bleed - which removes the irritant; so let it bleed. But stepping on a thorn jams it deeper; it might not bleed so treat it as an infection (topical antibiotic) FOR A DAY OR TWO. Then consult Doctor if it is still painful. Someone tried to get a good picture of the thorns, but the bush seems to give off radiation. You'd think there'd be more pictures, given they sell it as if it were a little plant, but it turns into a huge bush, dangerous it is to prune.

Treatment of bougainvillea in winter.

I have some bougainvillea bushes around my house in Southern Louisiana. The leaves grow black and fall off when we get cold snaps. Should I prune them or cover them to protect them in winter? Winter seems to be their season as I have 3 large 'tree'-size bougainvillea in Central Florida and you have to keep trimming them and don't let them touch your house. They are beautiful and a lot of work as they want to take over and climb like a vine. Losing foliage

I live in Tampa, Florida. My Bouganvillea is about 7' tall and bloomed really good this year, but then began to lose its leaves as the flowers fell off. It looks like it is dying. I don't over water it. In fact, I don't think it has been on its own for several years and this is the best year that it has bloomed. However, now it looks bad. I also have a jasmin vine next to it that doesn't look so healthy either. What do you think could be the problem? Help. Mom wants to cut it down if I can't find the problem. I live in Logan City, Queensland ( Just between Brisbane and the Gold Coast) on the Eastern Australian Coast. We are experiencing the worse drought ever and our bougainvilleas are doing their best (despite the conditions.) The thing I like about bougainvillea is that all you have to do is make sure you cut then back after flowering. (They colour up better when its dry).t The thing I like about them is that they are pretty easy to strike from cuttings if you place a something over them (like half a 2 litre sift drink bottle to make a mini terriuam) and you make sure there is plenty of cambium exposed with either honey or rooting hormone power/gel covering the end of the branch that you hope to get the roots stricking from. I have seen an old bloke on the television who gets them growing from thick old hardwood cuttings by just sticking them in sharp sand without putting anything on the stalk and leaving them for 6 months plus. He's a bougainvillea genius but I still think making a green house is the best way to get them striking quickly.

Our large bougainvilleas have lost a lot of leaves this year but we didn't cut them back. I think its best to cut them back vigorously when the bracks (the coloured leaves) have fallen off. This promotes new growth. The bracks seem to develop on the new growth. Cutting back also makes them thicken up. If you don't trim/hedge them they become untidy and throw out branches into the air like mad things. Bougainvillea "tree" has fungus!!

Hi, I need help, we're renting a place in Sharjah, the U.A.E. It has three magnificent old bougainvillea trees, one is dead and there's a fungus growing from it's base. It looks like isolation foam! What is it? and how do I get rid of it. No Blooms

I planted a bougainvillea about one month ago. The blooms were beautiful. We had terrible wind for about four days. All blooms were blown off. I have good new growth, but not a sign of any more blooms. It's been this way for about two weeks. It receives plenty of sun, and I keep it moist--never soggy. Also, I have fertilized. Flammable?
