Failed good article
The article is not broad enough in its coverage for GA. See section 3 of "What is a good article?" for more details. Similar comments to the GA review of Alpamysh, but this is closer. You'll see a couple of duplicated comments from that review below.
Some specific points:
- The first sentence in the lead is hard to understand. I think you mean that multiple countries can claim the Book of Dede Korkut as part of their cultural heritage. I suggest cutting into two sentences and rewriting.
- This sentence is a little clumsy: "Alpamish is one of the best known Turkic epics from among a total of well over 1,000 recorded epics among the Mongolian and Turkic language families by international scholars." Do you mean something like "Alpamish is one of the best known Turkic epics from among a total of well over 1,000 epics among the Mongolian and Turkic language families that have been recorded by international scholars"? If so, I'd cut everything after "families"; I think you're trying to establish the credentials of the people who have recorded the epics, but that's not really necessary to your point here. Anyway, the sentence needs a little clarification.
- The UNESCO section doesn't belong at the top -- I'm not certain it needs its own section, but if you give it a section then it shouldn't be first. The origin and synopsis section should probably be first.
- The synopsis section doesn't have a synopsis, as far as I can see.
I think a little broader coverage is warranted. There is a mention of a parallel with the Odyssey, and of some of the manuscript and printing history. I understand (correct me if I'm wrong; I'm not an expert) that this is a major element of Turkic folk culture, but there is no mention of modern Turkish attitudes and cultural references to it. I'm not sure I'd fail this article just on those grounds, but the combination of things here is a little too much to be fixed on GA Hold.
Some additional suggestions, which don't need to be addressed to meet GA:
- Cut the scholar's names from the lead; the conclusions can stay. A separate section on scholarship would be handy and could include references to these people, but that's not necessary for GA.
- Can you find a relevant image for this? Ideally it would be an image of an early manuscript, or of an enactment or performance, or even related artwork.
- Is "scriber" a typo for "scribe"?
- You mention the repression of Turkic identify by the Soviet Union. It would be good if you can find a source for this; I'm not going to fail the article on this, because I don't think it's really controversial, but ideally you should have something like a respected history of the Soviet Union that discusses their repression of local cultural identities. If you can find one that talks about such things as repressing oral histories, or which provides details, that would be great. You currently have two references footnoted from the relevant sentence, but as far as I can tell these only reference the existence of those texts, not the suppression.

i never heard it called Çağımızın Dede Korkut, it doesn't mean the book of... anyway. it means ...of our age. so that name is probably wrong. i'm changing it 88.226.208.140 15:17, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Dualism in Dede Korkut Stories
There are 12 stories but one can argue they make up on entity. Someone should write how the stories deal with "mother or wife/fiancee" and "peace and war"(occasionally referred with the 'hunting' metaphor).
Ps- I wish someone writes about the copy in Dresden. It's not helpful thus misleading to read which orientalist think when these stories was first told or published; they often failed on their thoughts relating Turkology.
