Talk:Bishop of Salisbury

The Reformation edit

The page states that Lorenzo Campeggio was 'Appointed Administrator of Salisbury. Deprived by Act of Parliament on the grounds of non-residence' and that he held office from 1524 to 1534. However, it appears that the Vatican continued to recognize him as Administrator until (or until very close to) his death on 25 July 1539. The Calendar of State Papers for 31 Henry VIII no 1308 records that on 23 July 1539 'His Holiness gave the administration of the church of Salisbury in England to Gaspar card. Contarini'. I therefore propose to change the page to read that Campeggio continued to be recognized as Administrator by the Vatican until July 1539. Alekksandr (talk) 18:22, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
