It's Gonzalez, not Gonzales

edit

Learned it on Spanish class (although I'm really, really bad at it), that when the first letter is z, then the next is z, if its s, then the next is s (or ss). For example, you have Real Zaragoza, not Real Zaragosa or Real Saragoza (although it can be spelled as Real Saragossa).

Although most Filipinos use Gonzales, most mestizos (I suspect Bianca is a mestiza, note that the word "mestizos" is Anglicanized, and is not a proper noun), use Gonzalez. --Howard the Duck | talk, 14:18, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

You have a point... but please understand that PBB's official website, as well as a lot of TV programs, spelled her name with an "s" (although her profile in the Celebrity Edition site spelled her name with a "z"). But the original "z" name is now a redirect. Sorry if the move bothered you, Howard. - 上村七美 | talk 10:25, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, the Pinoys may have become accustomed to "Gonzales", but other families stick to the correct "Gonzalez". As cited from Wikipedia:Proper names#Personal names: Clearly, recent personal names have but one correct spelling, which means that the most common spelling would not be the article name. An example is that Jose Rizal redirects to José Rizal.
I'd be moving this back to "Gonzalez" if you don't mind. --Howard the Duck | talk, 12:09, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
