He was editor of what? Last paragraph, lead sentence..probably supposed to be a newspaper title there.

General?

Being a brevetted general for the volunteers is NOT the same as being a brevetted general for the US Army. His actual army rank at the end of the war was major and he retired as a brevetted colonel (not actual).

It appears he was colonel of the 45th Ohio Volunteer Infantry as well as Brevet Brigadier General, United States Volunteers, and Brevet Major General, United States Volunteers. After the war he became a Major in the 45th United States Infantry in the regular army as well as Brevet Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army, and Brevet Colonel, United States Army. The Template:Infobox military person says the rank parameter is "the highest rank achieved by the person. Unusual cases, such as this rank not being the last achieved, or the rank being awarded posthumously, may be noted". So I used Major General and added (brevet) after it. I hope that's the correct way to do it. I listed his command as the 45th OVI, even though it appears he had temporary command of the 3rd Brigade of the 4th Division of the 23rd Corps at least at Allatoona — don't know the duration... His awards were after the war and honorary titles only. We wouldn't find him in the List of major generals in the United States Regular Army before 1 July 1920 and he never served as such. You have to admit that it looks odd that his highest command listed is just a regiment but on the appearance he looks to be a general. The way you did it is fine; I've added a note so as not to mislead the reader into thinking that this man was ever a Civil War general.
