Lowered Speed Limits/Increased travel times

The article includes "As a result of the changes, the maximum speed limit east of Bell is now 80 km/h and the time taken to traverse the route has increased by approximately 30 minutes." which is sourced as being from http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/bells-line-80kmh-limit-ludicrous/2008/11/01/1224956401462.html, but that is in turn an unsubstantiated claim from a councilor. At 100km/h, 89km will be covered in about 54 minutes, at 80 km/h it will take 67 minutes. The claimed extra 30 minutes is hyperbole. Any objections to removing? Merger proposal

User:Purplebackpack89 added a merge tag on State Route 40 (New South Wales), but didn't ddo anything with this page. The page for State Route 40 (New South Wales) has a few additional items that this page doesn't, but fails to give any sources. No, I would say absolutely not. As one might note from State Route 40 (New South Wales), Bells Line of Road is only a portion of State Route 40. Nevertheless it has its own distinctive characteristics and history. I might point out here, that in Australia, unlike the United States, route numbers are almost never used by motorists, and are little more than an offical formality. Road or highway names are much more important, and change, regardless of the route number. Many route numbers were added long after the roads were built, and link a number of disparate roads into one "route". In some cases, bypasses and motorways have been built over older roads, or have deviated from the original route. The old road names remain, but the route has changed. A further example: Route 1 encircles Australia - and has numerous official highway names. Leave it as it is. Ptilinopus (talk) 21:44, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Why does the name contain "of"

I have been looking unsuccessfully for information on why this road's name uniquely contains the preposition "of" - why isn't it just "Bells Line Road?" It doesn't even make grammatical sense. There must be an interesting story behind that, anyone know? Jpp42 (talk) 04:52, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

The Western Terminus of Bell's Line of Road

In recent years confusion has arisen as to the western terminus of Bell's Line of Road due to the New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority (now Roads and Maritime Services) erecting incorrect road signage at a number of locations. This signage confuses the geographical feature of the Darling Causeway between Bell and Mount Victoria with the name of the road itself.

What evidence is there that the RMS has erected incorrect road signage at any location along the road that connects Bell and Mount Victoria? Even Google Maps calls it the Darling Causeway. --Susurrus (talk) 11:04, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
