Talk:Battle of the Brains

Latest comment: 10 years ago by Predestiprestidigitation

The article states that Battle of the Brains began in 1985. This is not correct. I participated in Battle of the Brains in 1980-81 and 1981-82. 1980 is the likely start of this show. The champion in 1981-82 was Collegiate.

If anyone has any information between 1980 and 1985 (when the show's website starts listing past champions), please add it to the page.

Also, there were variants of "High School Bowl" and "It's Academic" that aired in the 1960s and 1970s, and very little information about either has been found. I know that Douglas Freeman was champion in 1968 and 1970 from some sleuthing I did.

I am fairly certain that Collegiate was also the champion of the 1980-1981 season.

Governor's School did not become Maggie Walker until it moved buildings sometime after 2000. It was called simply Governor's School prior.

More active research is going on at http://www.qbwiki.com/wiki/Battle_of_the_Brains (it looks like this page was mostly copied from there). That page always uses "Maggie Walker" to refer to the "Governor's School" for clarity, as it is aimed at a national audience that may not be concerned with when specific schools in Richmond changed their names. It also has more info on Battle of the Brains prior to 1985. Predestiprestidigitation (talk) 15:01, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Outdated tag edit

I added the "outdated" tag on 1/28/14. Several major parts of this article are no longer applicable: The Hampton Roads show was cancelled after the 2009 season but is included in the present tense. The game format has changed. Pretty much the whole article besides the list of champions needs to be updated to reflect this. The champions list also is missing information that the Quizbowl Wiki has uncovered. 20:27, 28 January 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Predestiprestidigitation (talkcontribs)
