When was the pub built? edit

One source said 1926, another said 1932. I tend to believe it is 1932, due to most other places accepting that year, but I can't be sure. How can it have been built in 1926 and then again in 1932?

At present I keep both dates (just in case there were 2 pubs or something) but can be changed to suit.

Also note that I changed it from mining town to roadhouse/hotel. No site suggested that it was anything other than just a pub, and indeed it said explicitly that 100% of the population work at the pub. I could not find anywhere that suggested that Barrow Creek was *ever* a mining town. It used to be a repeater station, but was never a mining town, so I don't know how that bit got in there. 203.122.218.47 07:00, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Actually ignore that. I decided to keep the 1926 link and get rid of the 1932 one, to avoid confusion. The 1926 link references who built it, so until proven otherwise, that one will do. 203.122.218.47 07:14, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

It seems that there may be current mineral exploration activity in the area, and was mining in the 1950s. For example:

Okay, well that's "near" to Barrow Creek, a bit like how Peter Falconio was allegedly murdered near to Barrow Creek. Barrow Creek does not seem to be a mining town, in that nobody who lives there works in the mining industry. But perhaps it could be included in the article to say that near to Barrow Creek a number of mining projects have been developed and/or proposed. This is pretty typical actually for Australia. Whenever nobody lives somewhere they start digging for something. :). 203.122.218.47 12:25, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

1928 Coniston Massacre edit

Is the existing section too big given it is meant to summarise an article, and the article itself is only about twice the size of what appears here? Garrie 05:49, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

How certain is the origin of the name "Barrow Creek"? edit

The article states the town is named after John Henry Barrow (1817-1874, preacher, journalist and politician, but without a reference can we be certain? I say this because there was another John Barrow, C.E. who is described in "Notable South Australians: or Colonists, Past & Present" published in 1885: "A USEFUL and respected colonist who arrived in Adelaide in 1850, and died at Mount Gambler in September 1872. In July 1850 he was appointed Engineer of the South Eoad under the Central Boad Board, and held that position till the breaking out of the Victorian gold-fields, when all departments were disorganized, and he followed the stream to Melbourne. Arriving there in December 1852, he was appointed by the Engineers* Department to examine and report upon the best means of improving the Western District, and was engaged in that capacity for three years. He examined various harbours and superintended the construction of roads, bridges, and public works. Mr. Barrow was appointed engineer to the Portland Boad District in 1856, and retained that office till 1867, when he resigned, and settled at Mount Giimbier in 1868. He entered warmly into most schemes for the development and improvement of the district, and among other things made a careful survey of Port MacDonnell, and showed the feasibility of making docks." http://archive.org/stream/notablesouthaus01loyagoog/notablesouthaus01loyagoog_djvu.txt Is there any corroborating evidence either way as to who was the inspiration for "Barrow Creek"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.212.7.70 (talk) 18:10, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Seems edit

The population seems to fluctuate between 4 and 11. This is only to be expected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.79.29.112 (talk) 11:49, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
