OK, some fixes needed. Need to avoid repetition in prose.
- It has also been suggested that Australia Day be celebrated on 1 January.. -
sounds weaselly. needs rephrasing. Who said it etc.bit better.
- It has also been suggested that Australia Day be celebrated on 1 January.. -
- The date 9 May is also sometimes suggested, - ditto, by whom?
Various parades are also held across the country - "various" is redundant here I suspect
::Australia Day is marked by civic celebrations around the country, including the Order of Australia awards. - repetitive (look at previous sentence) - try something like, "Civic celebrations such as the Order of Australia awards mark the anniversary/holiday/day around the country"
- with many significant events taking part in all major cities, but particularly in Sydney. - err, events don't take part, people do. Needs rewording. Also "event" repeated in next sentence.
- In 2004, an estimated 7.5 million people attended Australia Day celebrations and functions across the country. - 2004 is the latest figures we have?
The Kwan source notes Adelaide/SA joined the celebrations in 1910 - should be noted in that bit, which looks a big gap between 1888 and 1936.
In the interests of comprehensiveness, the 1988 celebrations were pretty noteworthy, and deserve a bit more of a mention (costs, events etc.) It was a really big deal at the time.
- File:Australiadayprotest.jpg - might be good to double-enusre the copyright is sorted on this one.
I am knackered now and need to sleep. The Kwan notes have some good material. The article is a wee bit slim but nothing really glaring leaps out as anything left out as such. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:07, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comments. I'll have a chance to look at these closer sometime later today. I can tell you though that the Australiadayprotest.jpg image comes from a political website which happened to be complaining about the Queensland Police. All the images there linked to their Flickr pages, which in turn had the Share Alike Attribution permission. \ / (⁂ | ※) 20:40, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- OK, sounds good, maybe just make sure the template on commons is all good. You heff seven daysss! XD Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:23, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Done Fixed the issues above. Might have to give a nudge to someone over at Commons though. Just so you know, the last source is a blog, simply to show that the date has been suggested somewhere. \ / (⁂ | ※) 05:31, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ah yes, I could only find 2004 statistics. I'll keep looking for more recent ones though. » \ / (⁂ | ※) 20:49, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for doing what you can. I can see some are tricky. I need to think about it a bit and as an aussie myself gunning for all the GAs I may not be seen as impartial, so I will get a second pair of eyes on it. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 20:50, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
- Looks pretty solid to me. My one issue would be that Indymedia source- I'm not seeing many suggestions of the new Parliament House opening, for example, in (relevant) independant media sources. I don't believe that little point is relevant to the GA criteria though. Nevard (talk) 09:47, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Great, ok, good to go. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:29, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
