Fair use rationale for Image:Arriva (logo).gif edit

Image:Arriva (logo).gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:54, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Heading edit

How would i go about changing the page heading "Arriva Southend" to "Arriva Southend Ltd"? Thanks. Xp132476 (talk) 18:53, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

You would use the "move" function at the top of the page. However, I hope you aren't going to change it to "Arriva Southend Ltd", as "ltd" and "plc" are discouraged, and it is not needed anyway. All of the other Arriva articles don't have them. Arriva436talk 18:39, 3 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply. I thought it may help to show that this division of Arriva doesn't just operate in Southend, but in the Grays area and some TfL routes as well. Thoughts? Xp132476 (talk) 18:48, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's OK! If you know that they do operate in these areas, then feel free to add it. I'm not knowledgeable in their routes, but if you know then yes, go ahead. Arriva436talk 19:02, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help Arriva436, as you can see the move has taken place. Now alls i need to do is add the TfL routes run by Southend. Just for the record they are the 256, 346, 370 and 499. Thanks again for your help. Xp132476 (talk) 23:19, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I acctually meant add the TfL routes and not move the page but it doesn't matter, if you want to do it be bold!! Arriva436talk 15:48, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Southend/Grays Routes edit

I think these should be merged as they were before. Reason being because the 44 and 150 are actually operated by Southend garage. Thoughts? Xp132476 (talk) 09:48, 5 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ah well, Grays is quite a way from Southend and the services in the two areas don't overlap apart from the 5 which replaced the 383 to an extent, and the article now includes the fact that the Grays services are run from Southend, so it's pretty clear now, isn't it? Thanks for extending the route info and adding the TfL routes as well! Huangcjz (talk) 16:33, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
What if the routes section is seperated into "Routes Operated by Southend Garage" and the same for Grays? Xp132476 (talk) 08:36, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
But surely most Wikipedia users would probably want to know where the buses run rather than which garage the buses come from if they're looking for information for buses in Southend/Grays? The garage information is still in the main text of the article for those wishing to know it. Huangcjz (talk) 09:22, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Have seen what you have added in brackets about garage information and that is much better than what i was thinking, thanks. Also on the subject of bus branding for the route 5, i'll have a look this Friday for the others done as well. Some others of the 332- have been branded, possibly 3204 or one of the other 34-- batch. Like i said, i'll have a look Friday and update here when i'm next online. Hope this helps. Xp132476 (talk) 14:46, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Routes Formatting edit

Rather like how the routes section is listed on the Ensignbus page, what do you think of me doing this kind of thing for the Arriva Southend Ltd routes? Routes would still be listed in their three sections as they are just in table format and with notes at the bottom. And rather like how the logo for Ensignbus routes 33, 44 and route 66 are used in the table, the logos for the routes 5, 13 and 29 are used. Thoughts? Xp132476 (talk) 19:29, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think that's a good idea - the dividing line between each route would make it clearer, and the logos are a good idea too. My only, minor, concerns are that tables may be confusing/more difficult for less experienced users to edit, but it's only a simple 2-column table, and it'll mean the section isn't as wide so it'll make the page longer, but the width scales with the monitor resolution of the reader anyway, so they're not really that much of a problem. Huangcjz (talk) 08:45, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well if there are any route changes, it'll be up to us to update the table then :) . I'll get about making the tables first, seeing how that goes before adding the logos. Thanks for your input. Xp132476 (talk) 09:25, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ah yes, it's much neater and clearer now, that was a good idea, thanks! I've just tidied up the notes section by giving it a heading to avoid repetition and make it stand out a bit more. Huangcjz (talk) 10:03, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for clearing up the notes section, at the time i couldn't think of any other way to set it out. I don't know if you want to upload the 5, 13 and 29 route logo's to the table but i cannot access the websites, i get a timed out error message. Thanks. FYI for current editors edit

I see Huangcjz and Xp132476 have a keen interest in this company and article, however, I should point out the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Transport/Bus articles, as some of the edits being made are getting well into minutia teritory, and are not appropriate for an encyclopoedia. Pursuant to those discussions I'll be making some changes as of now to get the article up to what passes as a standard for now. Feel free to contribute any views at that discussion there, rather than on a single page, for transparency. MickMacNee (talk) 14:42, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

You've marked "On 30 March 2008 both commercially run routes from the Grays garage (routes 373 and 383) were withdrawn, with the buses used for these routes moving to Southend garage" with a clarify tag, I don't see what's unclear about it? Routes 373 and 383 no longer run and the buses used on them were in standard turquoise/cream Arriva livery and when the routes were withdrawn, the buses used on them were moved from Grays garage to Southend garage (the one which hadn't already been moved to Southend). All buses at Grays garage now carry the Arriva London livery and operate TfL services, the actual Grays services are operated by buses running from Southend garage going all the way to Grays. Very wasteful with all the dead (empty, no passengers) running milage, I can't believe that's the way they do it, especially with fuel costs they way they are now, not to mention the environmental impact, but that's the way it is. See this forum and "Grays garage became linked with Arriva Southend - two buses even came from Southend to Thurrock on Monday to Saturdays and operated on route 383. Passengers were not generally aware though, thanks to Arriva dropping the policy of carrying the local identities on the vehicles." from here. Hope this helps. Huangcjz (talk) 09:41, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ok then, the routes were withdrawn, with the buses moved elsewhere. MickMacNee (talk) 15:11, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Is that clear on the article now or could you suggest how it could be made clearer so the clarify tag can be removed? Huangcjz (talk) 17:20, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Clear. The confusion came from a previous sentence in the previous version. MickMacNee (talk) 17:31, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

References to Newspapers edit

Most of these no longer work as the articles they used to link to have either been moved to archives or apparently deleted altogether. I've fixed a few (one turned up in a different newspaper to the one it's supposed to have appeared in, which was rather strange), but it would be nice if the people who added them could fix the rest as I can't find the others in the paper's archives.
