Talk:Albany, Georgia/Archives/2015

Latest comment: 9 years ago by NukeofEarl in topic Merge discussion

This Article is a Mess, very poorly written

Recommendation: erase it all, delete it, and start all over again. This article is full of grammatical errors, poor punctuation, misspellings, misuse of words (using the wrong word), long lists of disconnected facts, factual errors, and omissions. The article does not even say anything about the founding of the predecessor of Albany State University, and the importance of this university to the development of Albany from a town to a city, and so forth. There is nothing about the climate, except for the mention of disastrous floods and tornadoes, which is completely one-sided.98.67.175.251 (talk) 06:08, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Radio Stations

Go to the List of radio stations in Georgia (U.S. state) page. Just about all of Atlanta's radio stations are there now, but only one of Albany's is there. Can anyone add more Albany stations to the list, (You don't have to create articles for them)??

Some photos would be nice if someone in Albany could take some.

M-88

There is a mistake on the page for Albany, GA. The picture that you have of the M-88, which states that the vechile is a Marine Corps tank, is incorrect. It is a M-88 heavy tracked recovery vechile. It is used to tow M-1 Abrabam tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, or any other heavy mechanized vehicles. Look at this page [1]

Fair use rationale for Image:PeanutsPrimary.jpg

Image:PeanutsPrimary.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image copyright problem with Image:SouthGeorgiaWildcats.PNG

The image Image:SouthGeorgiaWildcats.PNG is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

I'd support a merge. Niteshift36 (talk) 14:41, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

  • I'd support a merge (although East Albany District has enough history to qualify as a free standing article.) Under the condition that there be a headlined area for the District to present statistics and history. --166.248.67.105 (talk) 08:42, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Support a merge as well

File:Downtown Albany, GA.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion

An image used in this article, File:Downtown Albany, GA.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Other speedy deletions
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Requests

To keep it brief and to the point:

1) The primary picture used for Albany paints a horrible picture for someone who is considering of moving to Albany, and there aren't too many of us. A different picture is needed to portray some of what the city has to offer, instead of a desolate street.

2) If East Albany is to be included and yet separate entity, please mention that all of Albany including East Albany is rife with gang activity. The FBI maintains and updates a list of gangs known to them by state and city. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.18.101.28 (talk) 03:11, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

  • 1) If you have a better, free picture, then suggest it. 2) Is East Albany part of the incorporated city of Albany or not? Niteshift36 (talk) 12:43, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

3} Delete the East Albany section entirely. It is racially divisive, reflects poorly on our city and is not a recognized district in Albany, GA. East Albany is referenced the same as North, South, and West Albany as a reference to direction, not a city. Whomever posted this is not familiar with this city and should not post on behalf of the city. If the motto is "one Albany" as this ill-informed racist writer or writers suggest, then it completely contradicts the need to have a reference to east Albany as a segregated district of Albany. I am requesting that it be removed AT ONCE!
