@Dr. Blofeld, Huldra, and Onceinawhile: hi. I believe to have read that the village was founded on land donated by Abdul Hamid II, that being the reason why it was called Hamidiyya. Maybe you can easily find a source? Thanks. Arminden (talk) 14:39, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well, that was added by Blofeld, and I assume he got the info from the Pal.Rem-site. It looks as if it was named el Mutelly on SWP map 9; ie SWP II, p. 125: "Foundations of buildings, apparently modern". "El Mutelly, the look-out", according to Palmer, p. 166, Huldra (talk) 21:47, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Kark has a lot on land ownership, Ottoman cadastral maps with the Sultan's estate, settlement in Late Ottoman period etc. I've downloaded a whole bunch of articles written by her since 2008 with or w/o Fischel or Frantzman, plus Frantzman's PhD thesis on the same topic. There was a large project by Abdul Hamid II to buy land and create massive private estates in the Ghor, including Beisan and the area around it, where he settled Bedouin or also felaheen, of which some were already in the region while others came from what she calls northern Samaria (Jenin area, I guess). Frantzman suggests, based on the village name, that at Hamidiyya there were fellaheen; this I have added to the history section. Kark & Co. seem to be very good with maps, I guess they would have identified the place with a SWP-registered village if that were the case, but who knows.
