Subdivisions edit

User:Charbelfakhoury has quoted a social study of Akkar that divides it into seven regions. Other sources quoted elsewhere in the article have each given a different division of Akkar into three, six, and seven (see Preface, p. 1) regions respectively. The names for the seven regions in the last source are very different from the seven currently given in this article – it divides both "Qaitea" and "Dreib" into two regions while omitting two others. My understanding is that all of these subdivision schemes are informal and none have any official administrative status. If that is the case, there is no basis for our article to prefer any one of these schemes over the others. Cobblet (talk) 22:14, 28 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

User:Cobblet, this social study that I used as reference was made by the Council for Development and Reconstruction which was established through Decree No. 5 dated 31st January 1977, and it's controlled by the ministry of Lebanon, so it has the most credibility. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Charbelfakhoury (talkcontribs) 18:56, 30 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

The issue is not the credibility of the source. I think all the sources I've cited are credible as well – two are published by the UN and one by Mada, the Lebanese NGO. The question is whether any of the various subdivision schemes have special significance compared to the others. If the CDR report has defined arbitrary regions in Akkar purely for the purposes of conducting one study, there is no reason to attach much significance to this scheme, and presenting it as the only possible view of Akkar's regions would not be consistent with Wikipedia's policy of maintaining a neutral point of view. The CDR's main objective is to apply these subdivisions, so if there is gonna be any future work for officially dividing akkar, the goverment will base it on the CDR. That's the whole point of establishing this council in the first place. Charbelfakhoury 20:24, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
User:Charbelfakhoury, can you cite a source (either somewhere in the report itself, or some other source) for your assertion that the CDR's study regions would serve as a basis for future administrative subdivisions in Akkar? If that is merely your personal understanding, I have no problem with including the subdivisions after they've been established, but including them on the basis of your personal speculation of what will happen in the future violates WP:CRYSTALBALL. It is fundamental Wikipedia policy that information should be independently verifiable. Cobblet (talk) 20:56, 30 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
