In the near future, once these technologies begin to crystalize, it will be important to consider: "for what reasons is this research going on".
The lack of mandatory ethics courses in universities that research AI shows that this question above is not asked as much as it could be.

This is unattributed opinion and thus has no place, as it stands, in the article. This article needs to be rewritten anyway, but seeing that most ethical dilemmas involving AI are, at this stage, just speculation it's hardly the most pressing topic to cover.

For the record, my AI course spent some time discussing the ethics and philosophy of AI topics, and as part of my CS degree we did a broader "Professional Issues" course which discussed ethics quite a lot. --Robert Merkel 10:49 Oct 10, 2002 (UTC)
