editSo, did the government never release the full results of the election? It's been nearly a year by now.--Aréat (talk) 20:10, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- This isn't uncommon as far as I Know - same thing has happened at least the last couple of elections. The Drover's Wife (talk) 20:45, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I didn't knew PNG's governement was this disfunctional. --Aréat (talk) 21:37, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- Would be interesting to know where the current seat distribution comes from (the table has no source). The IPU gives different results. Number 57 21:52, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- It isn't really possible to do an unambiguous party count because of the very loose party system in PNG: there can often be doubt about party affiliation even during the campaign, and massive party-switching immediately following the election is commonplace. There will be numerous MPs that there will have been argument as to what they were elected as (perhaps most often as whether they were independent or an endorsed candidate, but doubt between parties has happened before). This is easy enough to address in an individual MPs article, but in a party table means that someone has had to make a judgment call (and where sources clash, people have probably made different judgment calls).

- The table originally cited the PNGEC as a source when it was first added, but appears to have been removed, which is very odd. I'm presuming the editor who added it added up the listed affiliations from the PNGEC for declared candidates. And keep in mind that the infobox is different again because they've updated it with some of the early post-election party changes. I'm also confused by the mention of five vacant seats in the IPU figures: there were lengthy delays in declaring a handful of seats, but they were eventually resolved within 2 or 3 months - I haven't kept a close eye on PNG news the last few months but I'm not aware of a stack of by-elections. And this more or less illustrates the problem with trying to gather electoral data for PNG. The Drover's Wife (talk) 02:46, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
