No elections

As far as I can see there were no separate elections in mayotte. This article can be deleted. Electionworld Talk? 18:08, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

The CIA world factbook states that legislative elections for the island's parliament are due in 2007. The French wikipedia has an article on a 2007 legislative election in Mayotte, but it is not clear (to me anyway) if this refers to electing a representative for the French Parliament or for the island's parliament. I found this one but it seems the 10 June elections were the ones for the Mahoran representative in the French Parliament. Perhaps it is later this year. Number 57 18:29, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

The French wiki states in fr:Mayotte:

“ La loi du 11 juillet 2001 relative à Mayotte prévoit l'application progressive du droit commun français à Mayotte, dans la perspective de l'évolution vers le statut de département d'outre-mer (DOM). Mayotte est ainsi une collectivité départementale, dotée d'un conseil général, et d'une administration décentralisée, en place depuis le 1er avril 2004. Depuis 2001, les règles applicables à Mayotte figurent au Code général des collectivités territoriales. La loi organique du 21 février 2007 a réécrit ce statut, en prolongeant la logique de la loi de 2001. Désormais (à partir du 1er janvier 2008), sauf dans quelques matières (fiscalité, urbanisme, droit social...), l'identité législative régit le régime législatif de Mayotte : cela signifie que le droit commun est applicable, comme dans les DOM. De plus, à partir de son renouvellement de 2008, le conseil général de Mayotte pourra adopter une résolution invitant le gouvernement à transformer la collectivité en DOM. ”

The bold part roughly means "Furthermore, the General Council of Mayotte will -- after its renewal in 2008 -- be able to adopt a resolution inviting the government to transform the collectivity into a DOM."
