returning list of symptoms to the page

User:Rodrigue removed the "Symptoms" section with the comment "This is not a page for health recommendations". I don't understand this -- most of the section's content seems entirely appropriate. I think the article needs a discussion of the impact of the tainted food on pets, and the actions taken in response by pet owners and veterinarians, and the fact that the symptoms are somewhat ambiguous -- acute renal failure can be caused by other things. Wouldn't it have been better to rewrite this section? --Sommerfeld 21:56, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Possibly more than just a "Pet food" recall?

See this Dkos diary: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/4/3/112836/8000 for coverage of the FDA's alert -- it includes human-grade gluten, meaning that the contamination may be in human food as well, although it has not been officially acknowledged. Maybe we should consider this contamination to be more widespread. This and perhaps the Melamine and other entries related to this event should be changed to reflect that human food may be contaminated as well. User:Pogopark

Indeed. The "human-grade" gluten factoid may not be all that relevant; at least one story I read (sorry, no ref at hand) says that nobody makes "feed grade" gluten so presumably it's all either industrial grade or food-grade. What really matters is where it went -- the press reports and statements I've seen are consistent with the possibility that the gluten went to one or more factories which makes both pet and human food but there is no evidence it ended up in human food. --Sommerfeld 22:22, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Cleaning up lead

The lead had evolved into a smaller incomplete version of the main article, so I moved its content down and sorted it out a bit. Process needs more work, tho. Feel free to participate. Andyvphil 12:55, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

I may be trying to connect two dots here that are actually on different pages, but I thought I'd throw it in in case anyone wants to follow it up. The BBC has this news item http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/6540157.stm about folks getting sick in CHina from porridge. Interesting similarities? Porridge.. wheat gluten? Hmm.
