Actually, they are the same storm, but that's great to see. I'll edit the season page to reflect this. Hurricanehink 21:06, 13 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
No worries Rattleman. Bad news though, JTWC issued its last advisory. Hurricanehink 23:26, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
It says it's a TD on this article but I haven't seen anything about it.Icelandic Hurricane 22:02, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Even though the NRL hasn't updated yet, it's Mala! [1] -- RattleMan 23:40, 25 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sweet! I wonder if we'll see the first April cyclone since 1994. Hurricanehink 23:53, 25 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Dvorak gives Mala T4.0, and it sure deserves it. There is definitely an eye feature becoming more apparent in visible satellite imagery. --Coredesat 05:59, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unofficial or not, the JTWC is now forecasting 115 kt. [2] --Coredesat 09:50, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Looks like this could be a major event for Myanmar. --Golbez 21:17, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yea. It could even eventually justify its own article, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Hopefully everyone is aware of the storm in harm's way. Hurricanehink 21:35, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Up to 80kt (90 mph), though the JTWC's prediction is now only 90 kt as it approaches Myanmar. Cuiviénen, Thursday, 27 April 2006 @ 22:15 UTC

I think I see a pinhole eye: [3]. Myanmar could be in for a huge beating. -- RattleMan 02:23, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ooh, this thing is gonna get strong. Any bets on peak strength? I'll guess 150 mph. I also added an IR pic to the article. Hurricanehink 02:28, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, we'll see. So far, no one is calling for rapid deepening, but that's what they said about Wilma and Monica... Cuiviénen, Friday, 28 April 2006 @ 03:17 UTC
The computer models are. Latest SSD Dvorak T-number is T5.5. Worst of all, it's approaching a moderately-populated area of Myanmar. --Coredesat 04:10, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yikes. Let's hope that that bottom one is correct. Cuiviénen, Friday, 28 April 2006 @ 04:36 UTC

Latest DT from JTWC reach T6.5! It should be the strongest TC in Bay of Bengal since 2001. I think Mala should have its own article as a landfall at high intensity is likely. Momoko

NRL now makes it 115 knots![4] Momoko

Damn that storm looks nice! Momoko, wait on the article, but I completely agree with you. It's going to get pretty strong, especially with that nice eye. Hurricanehink 11:36, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Is there a reason why I have checked all day and there was no eye at all with Mala? It looks just about ready to made landfall but that can't be right because it was much further away from the coast. I'm very confused about what's going on. 216.110.254.167 20:04, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
There must be a delay in updating, because the storm is about to make landfall. Also, the eye is obscured by clouds. It can be seen in the IR, I think. Hurricanehink 21:04, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, Mala's over. Would this image be a better picture as opposed to the current one? Hurricanehink 13:41, 29 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think the Earth Observatory image would be best.--Nilfanion 14:17, 29 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do we have any more information on deaths or damages in Myanmar? I don't expect to hear much from the junta, but Mala seems like an article-worthy storm, and we need more information for it to have its own article. Cuiviénen, Saturday, 29 April 2006 @ 18:03 UTC

Alright, I'm working on a test article for this, located at User:Hurricanehink/Cyclone Mala. Feel free to help. Hurricanehink 21:25, 29 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Also, there are reports of two deaths, curtosy of here. Hurricanehink 21:32, 29 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK, my test article is done. Could that be used as Mala's main article? Hurricanehink 23:47, 29 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I'll just go ahead and do it. Hurricanehink 00:12, 30 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Grr... it's a redirect. I'll ask an admin. Hurricanehink 00:14, 30 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Heh. Sorry. I made the redirect back when it become obvious teh storm was something significant. Your article looks good. Cuiviénen, Sunday, 30 April 2006 @ 00:18 UTC
I agree, looks great. I've placed it in the Cyclone Mala article. -- RattleMan 00:32, 30 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Cool, and that's fine. Hurricanehink 01:07, 30 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

There's a large blob near the Arabian Peninsula. -- Yarrah 15:13, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

AN AREA OF CONVECTION HAS PERSISTED NEAR 13.5N 62.6E, APPROXIMATELY 645 NM SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF MUSCAT, OMAN.

JTWC advisory (POOR chance). Muscat, Oman. When was the last time we had a cyclone affecting the Horn of Africa or the Arabian Peninsula? NSLE (T+C) at 03:23 UTC (2006-05-25)

Answering my own question... 2004 had Agni. NSLE (T+C) at 03:29 UTC (2006-05-25)
I can't see this one developing. CrazyC83 18:40, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's got some spin to it now, and it appears to be heading west in between the two land masses. HERE is an animateable loop of it (Click animate at the top, then Full Sized, then Most Recent). I think it will at least make a depression before it gets dragged on land, probably onto Africa rather than the Arabian Peninsula. -Winter123 19:41, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's gone from NRL... -- RattleMan 06:38, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand why- it still looks pretty impressive to me. It has a surface low and plenty of convection. It still has a chance. -Winter123 01:48, 29 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

92B.INVEST looks like an overland depression that just formed within its last few hours before dissipating. I think it first must have been part of a monsoon through, although I am not sure. Look at this infared satellite image to see it yourself from the US Navy NRL. [7] Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody 18:40, 15 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

There's a 93B on the Navy site. Looks pretty close to land right now. --Coredesat talk. ^_^ 00:14, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dosen't seem to develope, it could possibly just head straight to land (as I see it). Alastor Moody (talk) 01:57, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
There's now a 93I.INVEST on NRL, but it's got the same imagery as this. I? Never seen that designation before... -- RattleMan 01:19, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
heh the alternative text say 93L Atlantic Basin.. very weird. -- VOFFA 02:56, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
93I is centred northwest of 93B, if NRL is right. The system does seem to have two "eyes"/centres... Chacor 04:22, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
First Q, now I? What's next? X? --Coredesat talk. ^_^ 04:29, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
X - that must be a tropical cyclone in the Arctic Ocean, Xmas = North Pole, lol.--Nilfanion (talk) 12:18, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

93I is gone. Chacor 14:34, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

WHAT THE... !!! Is this an overland depression?!?! It seems like a hurricane forming over land:-) Alastor Moody (talk) 00:39, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I guess it's possible. There's so many rivers there it could practically survive on that. íslenska hurikein #12 (samtal) 01:10, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
The rivers probably are not big enough to sustain anything. Chacor 01:18, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Is this something like a once in a century event cause this is the first hurricane-type storm forming over land, instead over water:-) It seems to be like science fiction or something. Alastor Moody (talk) 19:10, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Actually, RSMC La Reunion does track overland depressions in Africa. They do form once in a while and are generally weak. --Coredesat talk. ^_^ 22:27, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

93B is gone now. --Coredesat talk. ^_^ 18:12, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Should I go ahead an put it up on the article as "Deep Depression 04B" or just "Deep Depression 94B"? Alastor Moody (talk) 22:03, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Just call it "Deep Depression" as neither the JTWC nor IMD have numbered it. Chacor 00:55, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
