I was travelling in Morocco during the 2004 outbreak and happened to drive through a swarm for around 20 kilometers at the north end of the Sahara near Ouarzazate. At points I was at several hundred feet elevation in the foot of the atlas mountains and could see the valley below completely filled with locusts.

I have this image i took, if it is of worth for the article locusts

please provide info as to Hz swarm produces

207.75.81.12 (talk) 18:57, 1 October 2012 (UTC) The farmers are told that elephants are afraid of bees so hive keeping will deter foraging elephants, but this 'fear' is due more to the sound of the buzzing and not the bees themselves. Is the actual sound produces by swarming locusts what elephants fear?

Crop losses

I have been looking for the original source stating the 2.5 billion USD crop losses. I found it repeated in some news articles, but could not find a scientific paper or an FAO source that mentioned this figure. Any suggestions for a reference? Update: this source mentions an estimated 2.5 billion dollar production in the sahel for the summer of 2004, of which an estimated 10 - 30 % got lost during the outbreak. This may be where the (wrong) figure comes from. Source: https://www.jstor.org/stable/3657127?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents
