Jonny Wookey Memorial Varsity Game edit

The Jonny Wookey game started in 2013 as a remembrance of team co-founder Jonny Wookey,[5] who died in Cypress just before graduating in 2012.[6] The game is played against the Edinburgh Eagles with all proceeds going to the Jonny Wookey foundation set up by the family.[7] The first game hosted over 550 people to watch a 6-3 victory,[8] the following year (2014) doubling this attendance for another 6-3 victory.[9] The record attendance is over 1,500 people.[1][2] The Typhoons have won the Jonny Wookey game 8 times in total, most recently in 2023.

Influential Past Players edit

Jonny Wookey - One of the founders of the Typhoons from Toronto, Canada.[9] Tragically dying before his graduation, his impact is felt years later. The Jonny Wookey Memorial Game is played in his memory and the teams' jerseys still display a maple leaf with JW written on it in his memory.[10]

Kieran McCann - A first year hockey player from Los Angeles California who tragically died in St Andrews in 2015.[11][12][13] He is memorialized in the Jonny Wookey game and at the annual Kieran Memorial Dinner.[5]

Ollie Cutting - A co-founder of the Typhoons who was also picked to play for Team Great Britain in 2014.[14]
