Simms Senior High School

Simms Senior High School (SIMMSCO) is a co-ed secondary school located in Fawoade in the Ashanti Region established in 1977 as a private school by Mr. Simms Kofi Mensah to provide education to the people of Kwabre in the Ashanti Region.[1]

History edit

Simms Senior High School was set up as a result of an urgent meeting called by the Fawoade Yasore Town Development Committee on Sunday, December 12, 1976, to discuss issues about the education of the youth who, despite passing the Common Entrance Examinations, were not admitted into the nation's colleges because of a lack of readily available spots. The meeting resolved to build a college, as proposed by certain individuals, one of which being Mr. Simms Kofi Mensah. In January 1977, Mr. Simms K. Mensah notified the Town Development Committee that he had received authorization from the Ghana Education Service's Inspectorate Division for the establishment of a coeducational facility with registration number P.A/2/77.[2][3]

Thus, on Friday, September 30, 1977, the Simms Secondary/Commercial College was founded and inaugurated under the patronage of some notable individuals,[4] among them Mr. B. Allotey Babinton, the then District Chief Executive of the Kwabre Sekyere District. The Oyoko Bremanhene, Nana Kofi Amoako,[5] and Mr. Simms K. Mensah, the chairman of the Board of Management, was joined by Mr. George Jerry Hanson, the former assistant director of G.E.S. and former Chairman of the Conference of Directors of Education (CODE).[6]

In 1982, the school became a Government Assisted Secondary School and was integrated into the public education system.[7]
