Shimoyuino Station is served by the Hokuriku Main Line, and is located 38.8 kilometers from the terminus of the line at Echizen-Hanandō and 41.4 kilometers from Fukui.

Shimoyuino Station opened on December 15, 1960. With the privatization of Japanese National Railways (JNR) on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR West.
