Ray O'Rourke (footballer)

Ray O'Rourke (born 11 January 1948) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL).[1]

Recruited from Tasmanian Australian National Football League (TANFL) club Hobart, O'Rourke made his senior VFL debut for Geelong in Round One 1969 VFL season, against Melbourne at Kardinia Park.[2] O'Rourke had two possessions, and, playing against Essendon at Windy Hill in Round 2,[3] injured his knee and was not picked for Geelong's senior side again.[4]

O'Rourke played for Geelong's reserves during the rest of the season before returning to Tasmania.[4]

Family edit

O'Rourke lives in Bendigo with his wife Margaret, a former mayor of the City of Greater Bendigo,[5] and his daughters Bryde and Ireland.[4]

O'Rourke's daughter Bryde O'Rourke was drafted as a Father-Daughter selection at the 2023 AFL Women's draft.[6]
