Prasthanam is a upcoming Indian Hindi-language political action film directed by Deva Katta. The film is produced by Maanayata Dutt under her own banner Sanjay S Dutt Productions.[1] The film stars ensemble cast of Sanjay Dutt, Manisha Koirala, Jackie Shroff, Chunky Pandey, Ali Fazal, Satyajeet Dubey, and Amyra Dastur.

The film is a remake of 2010 Telugu film of the same name.[2]Sanjay Dutt, the producer Manyata Dutt, and the director Deva Katta have been sent a legal notice by Shemaroo Entertainment, due to not having the remake rights for the film.[3]The notice was sent out on Monday July 29, trio have been given 72 hours to response to the notice.[3]

The film is set to release on 20 September 2019.[4]



The film revolves around a politician Baldev Pratap Singh (Sanjay Dutt) and relations prevailing in his family.




Dutt got interested to remake the Telugu film soon after it was released.[7]After Dutt was released from jail approached the director of the original film Deva Katta, who said he got interested in the project due to Dutt's "intensity of interest from his side".[8]The director stated that the team has not made significant changes from the original film.[8]The film will mark the director's first Bollywood film as a director.[8]


When the director narrated the script Manisha Koirala accepted the film.[9]The director of the film further added, "The kind of respect and camaraderie that they (Dutt and Manisha) share has added to the film and on screen it is magical to see it".[9]When Jackie Shroff joined the project, the director said it's a dream come true for him.[10]Sooraj Pancholi was chosen to play in the lead role was later replaced by Ali Fazal, due to his busy schedule for his next film.[11]


On June 1, 2018, on the occasion of Sanjay Dutt's late mother Nargis' 89th birth anniversary, Dutt announced the film to be produced.[12]Filming began on June 6 the occasion Dutt's late father Sunil Dutt's 90th birth anniversary.[12]Sanjay Dutt began shooting portions of the film in Lucknow.[12]


Legal issuesEdit

Shemaroo Entertainment, the company who owns the rights for the original film Prasthanam (2010) sent out a legal notice to Sanjay Dutt, Maanayata Dutt, and Deva Katta.[3]The notice was sent out on 29 July, and the trio have been asked to response within 72 hours.[3]Shemaroo Entertainment said, "Yes, we have sent the legal notice. Your information is absolutely correct. We obviously will demand a certain amount. The rights of Prasthanam belong to us and we had brought them from Gemini".[3]


On the occasion of Sanjay Dutt's 60th birthday, the one minute teaser trailer was unveiled.[13]
