• 1979 - Hurricane David reached its peak intensity with 280 km/h (175 mph) winds in the Caribbean Sea. The next day it made landfall on Hispaniola near Santo Domingo, killing over 2,000 people.
• 2015 - Three major hurricanes (pictured), from left to right, Kilo, Ignacio and Jimena, all reach maximum intensities as a Category 4 major hurricane across the Central and Eastern Pacific basins.
