C. Paschal Eze is a former Gambian daily newspaper and monthly business magazine editor in chief. In 2001, Eze resigned from his position as editor in chief of The Gambia's largest selling independent daily newspaper, The Daily Observer, in response to being told not to publish interviews or stories about United Democratic Party politician Lamin Waa Juwara. Ten other member of the editorial staff resigned along with Eze. Eze then expanded his career into tourism, where he was appointed in 2002 as the West Africa director of the Miss Tourism World Organisation, an international beauty pageant organizer that runs Miss Tourism World among other contests. Eze moved from The Gambia to Iowa, United States in 2003, where he works as certified training consultant, rebranding strategist, business coach and commentator.

Jammeh was born in Kanilai, in the Gambia, and is a Muslim of the Jola ethnic group. He attended Gambia High School in Banjul from 1978 to 1983 and served in the Gambian National Gendarmerie from 1984 to 1989. He was then commissioned as an officer of the Gambian National Army, commanding the Military Police from 1992 to 1994. In July 1994, he came to power by leading a bloodless coup d'etat that overthrew the elected government of Sir Dawda Jawara. At first ruling by decree, he was elected president in the 1996 election. Alieu Ebrima Cham Joof (22 October 1924 – 2 April 2011) commonly known as Cham Joof (pen name: Alh. A.E. Cham Joof) was a Gambian historian, politician, author, trade unionist, broadcaster, radio programme director, scout master, Pan-Africanist, lecturer, columnist, activist and nationalist who advocated for the Gambia's independence during the colonial era.
