James P. Fitch worked for the Boy Scouts of America during its first decade to travel with Chautauqua circuits and set up Scout troops. He then served as a regional BSA director until 1945. He then served as general manager of Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He was the Southern Methodist University advisor for the Alpha Omicron chapter of Alpha Phi Omega a Greek Letter Scouting fraternity.
