- 1918 – The first Victorian Farmers Union member is elected to parliament as a result of the introduction of preferential voting.
- 1982 – The Tasmanian Wilderness Society, led by Bob Brown, stages a blockade of the Franklin Dam site in Tasmania which continues into 1983.
- 1993 – The Australian Football League announces that the Fremantle Football Club will enter the league in 1995.
- 1996 – The Liberal/National coalition government of Richard Court is reelected in Western Australia.
