National Institute of Laboratory Medicine & Referral Centre

National Institute of Laboratory Medicine & Referral Centre (NILMRC) is a state run academic institute for laboratory medicine in Agargaon, Dhaka.[1]

The project of the institute was approved by the ECNEC in June 2010. The 12-storey structure was completed in 2017. The initial budget of the project was Taka 138.14 crore, which has been increased by 41 percent to Taka 194.32 crore.[2][3] Prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the institute on 31 October 2018. But the institute was permitted to run from 2 December 2019.[4][5]

Prof. Dr. Abul Khair Mohammad Shamsuzzaman served as the first director of the institute.[3] On 24 April 2021, the head of the institute, Professor Dr A. K. M. Shamsuzzaman, died from COVID-19 complications.[6] Current director is Professor Dr. Mohammed Shahed Ali Jinnah.[7]

Objective of NILMRC, Bangladesh edit

  • To provide facility for community and hospital based training for all level of laboratory personnel.
  • To make a network all over the country to ensure quality of laboratory services.
  • Provide pathological service and utilize the institute as referral laboratory.
  • Introduce accreditation in the field of laboratory medicine
  • Conduct Post-graduate and Undergraduate courses on different subjects of Laboratory Medicine.
  • Conduct research activities
  • Generate income through service provision.

Facilities edit

Amid COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh, the institute is primarily active as a test center for COVID-19.[8][9] Services available at NILMRC with price: Active test in NILMRC
