Nahal Mattat is one of the tributaries of Nahal Biranit in the Upper Galilee region of Israel.

The source of Nahal Matat is located at an altitude of approximately 800 meters above sea level within Mattat. The stream flows northward, crossing Road 8944 westward until it converges with Nahal Biranit at an altitude of approximately 600 meters above sea level. This confluence is situated south of Mount Birnit and north of the settlement of Elkosh.[1]
In April 2021, the "Nahal Matat" nature reserve was officially declared,[citation needed] encompassing the stream and its surrounding area, totaling approximately 261 dunams. The hiking trail to the reserve begins in the settlement of Mattat and is marked on Trail Map No. 2 of the Upper Galilee.[2]
Characteristics
editThe soil in Nahal Mattat is chalky, supporting the growth of various plant species, including Arbutus andrachne, mastic tree, Mount Tabor oak (Quercus ithaburensis), Rhamnus lycioides, Cephalanthera longifolia, and several species of orchids.[3]
