Template talk:Events by year for decade
This template creates an event listing for a decade by transcluding the events for all the years of that decade. It should only be used for decades in the common era, with a relatively small number of events. (See 400s for an example.)
The template takes one parameter—the decade number (the first year of the decade, divided by ten). Before using this template, make sure that all non-event-listing info for the individual years of that decade are enclosed in <noinclude> </noinclude> tags. Abou 21:17, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

References
editHow are references meant to work when this template is used? It seems like it's impossible to use named <ref>
tags because the names will become redundant if they're unique, or not be able to be combined since the transclusion doesn't filter them out and the individual articles for the involved years aren't able to reference each other. See, for example, the duplicate reference definition errors in the 800s (decade) article. -- Mikeblas (talk) 14:27, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- For errors like the one at 800s (decade), there is no automatic fix. I've changed the names of that reference in the 802 and 806 articles and then purged the decade article, and that error message is gone. But there is no harm in giving a name to a reference that is only used once. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:38, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- Now, the 800s (decade) article has a single references that's listed four times. -- Mikeblas (talk) 06:27, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- Fixed by adding the same name to the reference in each article. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:49, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Excerpts
editHi! I'd like to suggest this change to the template. It basically replaces the calls to {{Transcluded section}}, {{Trim}} and the transclusion via #section-h for a single call to {{Excerpt}} that does basically the same but in a more concise way and more importantly via the Module:Excerpt. Using a Lua module rather than plain transclusions gives us greater control as to what and how the content is transcluded. See the documentation of {{Excerpt}} for some options already available, but in the future the module can be improved to fit the needs of this particular template in ways that #section-h will never be able to. The testcases look good to me, but a double-check and some feedback from someone more involved in the development of this template would be most welcome and needed! Looking forward to it, Sophivorus (talk) 13:11, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Please change "Hispanola" to "Hispaniola". Periphyseon (talk) 21:09, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Note: The misspelled word "Hispanola" does not appear anywhere in the template. Because this template contains transcluded information, the misspelling may exist elsewhere. Spintendo 02:23, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
