First Lady of Colombia (1900-1904) edit
Her husband had been elected vice president, although he acted as acting president from August 7 to November 3, 1898 due to the delicate state of health of President Manuel Antonio Sanclemente. On July 31, 1900, her husband would lead a coup d'état[3] against the president, with great support from the Conservative party, ending this with an alliance between the Liberal party and the conservative party as well as the deposition of Manuel Antonio Sanclemente, assuming Marroquín as the new president, Matilde becoming the new First lady.[4]
