He was raised in a military family, Layne's early years were defined by a nomadic lifestyle, with relocations across continents, including seven formative years spent in Darmstadt and Mannheim, Germany. In 1996, Layne moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to live with his maternal grandparents, Emma and Harvey Stephenson. After graduating from Millington Central High School in 2000, Layne moved to Brooklyn, New York, to live with his paternal grandparents, Rosita and Carl Harper, to pursue his music career.[2][3]

Layne was an actor long before he knew it, beginning with acting in his own music videos[4], passionately portraying characters in each production.
