Born and raised in Al-Salt, Ghunaimat completed a degree in political science at the University of Jordan. She held different positions in Jordanian and Arab media, including as in Al-Ra'i and Al-Sijill newspapers. Her designation as editor in chief of the Al-Ghad newspaper in late 2011 made her the first woman in the Middle East to be editor in chief of an Arab daily. She was appointed to be Jordan's Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson by Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on 14 June 2018.
