Trammell, who was in custody on a misdemeanor domestic violence warrant, sustained severe injuries that led to his death, which the coroner ruled as a suicide caused by blunt force trauma. Videos released in June 2024 showed Trammell in a highly distressed state, repeatedly hitting his head against the jail wall.[2] The incident and subsequent handling by the jail staff have sparked outrage and calls for accountability from his family and their lawyer, Sarah Gelsomino.

Isaiah's father, Celsey Trammell, spoke out about his son's compassionate nature and his dream of helping others. He described Isaiah as a sports enthusiast who loved outdoor activities and was determined to make the world a better place. The family's lawyer, Gelsomino, criticized the jail's treatment of Isaiah, highlighting a broader issue of neglect in Ohio's correctional facilities. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office defended their actions, stating that Trammell received continuous care from medical and mental health providers. The county claims to have since invested significantly in improving mental health resources within the jail to prevent such tragedies in the future.[3]
