The CTIC Foundation (Center for the Development of Information and Communication Technologies in Asturias) is a non-profit private organization, constituted by a group of firms from the Information and Communication Technologies field, and the Government of the Principality of Asturias. The main goal of the CTIC Foundation is to promote and stimulate activities related to the development of Information and Communication Technologies in all fields of economic and social life in order to lead the impulse and strengthening of the Information Society. CTIC hosts the W3C Spanish Office.

According to its statutes, CTIC's founding purposes are as follows The contribution to the general benefit of society and the improvement of the competitiveness of companies through the generation of ICT technological knowledge, carrying out R&D&I activities and developing their application; the promotion and development of the information society in general and of information and communication technologies. It is registered as a technology centre in the Register of Technology Centres and Technological Innovation Support Centres according to the Resolution of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of 23 November 2011 with the number 94 in accordance with Royal Decree 2093/2008, of 10 December, and is part of the Network of Technology Centres of the Principality of Asturias.
Since 2003, CTIC hosts the Spanish office of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), whose main mission is to promote the adoption of the W3C recommendations among developers, application creators and the Web community in general. Currently, it is also the office for the Spanish-speaking countries of South America.
CTIC Technology Centre edit
The CTIC Technology Centre aims to improve the competitiveness of companies through research and technological innovation, as well as the design and implementation of strategies, initiatives or projects of Technological Development. It focuses mainly on the development of strategic plans, intervention models and feasibility studies of policies related to the Information Society in its advanced stages. It also provides technological support services aimed at the standardisation and standardised incorporation of ICTs in companies and the promotion of an innovative culture among SMEs in traditional sectors.

Likewise, the technological innovation that CTIC brings to the rural environment from its work centre in Peón - Asturias, CTIC RuralTech stands out as an example of what technology can bring to the rural environment. Energy self-consumption, fire alerts, traceability of agri-food products... the aim is to create a model of village adapted to the needs of the 21st century: a sustainable, connected village that offers quality of life to its inhabitants, without losing the essence of the rural environment.

In a world in which technology advances irremediably, where artificial intelligence is present not only in the industrial or business sphere, but in all aspects of daily life, the humanisation of technology takes on special relevance, becoming a key requirement to face the challenges that lie ahead. The ability to face these challenges is inevitably associated with thinking and reasoning, for which, undoubtedly, in addition to scientific-technological training, humanistic-technological training must be added.
At CTIC, the challenge is to create and promote technologies that make people's lives easier and improve companies' business processes to make them more competitive, which requires a permanent adaptation to technological advances, constant attention to market trends as well as a continuous investment in infrastructures and equipment. All this under the umbrella of a permanent commitment to the territory for which it is essential to count on people.
Two decades of commitment edit
For two decades, the Technology Centre has been a facilitator of digital transformation in companies, both inside and outside Asturias. Thanks to its specialisation in data technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as its extensive experience accompanying management teams in their practical implementation, CTIC is a qualified partner for improving business processes. Its contribution consists of providing solutions ranging from data generation and acquisition, data communication, the application of advanced architectures for data processing and its final exploitation, extracting value from the data by means of advanced analysis and visualisation techniques, as well as artificial intelligence algorithms.
CTIC works in this field with two objectives: on the one hand, to help companies and entities in their digital transformation processes to become data-driven organisations, known as data-driven companies. And on the other hand, applying its knowledge and experience in interoperability, advanced architectures and digital identification standards, verifiable credentials and linked data, as well as the development of data spaces, the cornerstone of the deployment of the European Data Strategy.
W3C/CTIC edit
CTIC is the headquarters of W3C in Spain since its creation in 2003. The main mission of W3C Spain is to promote the adoption of W3C recommendations among companies and professionals in the development of web applications, encouraging, in turn, the inclusion of organisations that are committed to the construction of future standards by joining the W3C.
The main functions of the W3C in Spain are the following:
- Promotion of the dissemination, adoption and use of the standards developed by the W3C. - Integration of member organisations with the W3C. - Organisation of events for the promotion of W3C standards: tutorials, workshops, congresses, courses, presentations, etc. - Organisation of technical meetings with Spanish W3C member companies and sharing of concerns and problems that arise with respect to W3C standards. - Translation, localisation and local dissemination of W3C standards, through news, press releases, mailing lists, etc. - Creation of local discussion forums. - W3C's role as a means of communication with the general public and member organisations. - Advice and help in solving technical problems related to the implementation of W3C technologies.
